Course Requirements:

This course is ideal for intermediate to advanced lyre players and is suitable for lyres of any type with at least 7 strings. It’s highly recommended to complete the beginner courses (101, 102, and 103), along with core lessons available at LyreAcademy, before starting this course.

For students with a lyre or kithara with 7 or more strings, this course is fully compatible. Additionally, you will have access to simple, step-by-step videos to prepare your lyre for the course, including tuning and setup.

Lesson Breakdown

Lesson 1: Polyphonic Playing on an Ancient Melody

In this lesson, you will learn how to play an advanced arrangement of an ancient melody called “Dodekasimos.” This will also introduce you to polyphonic playing, where you will combine different melodies to enrich your lyre playing experience.

Lesson 2: Transforming Basic Ancient Melodies

Learn how to transform basic ancient melodies into advanced compositions by applying techniques such as eighth and sixteenth notes. This will help you breathe new life into traditional tunes with a modern touch.

Lesson 3: Warm Up with Mozart

Start your journey by warming up with two-hand playing, harmonics, and sixteenth notes while learning how to play W. A. Mozart’s classic piece, “Eine kleine Nachtmusik.” This is a great introduction to both technique and classical music.

Lesson 4: Learn How to Play “O Pastor”

In this lesson, focus on the beautiful and demanding song “O Pastor” by Madredeus. This song has three distinct parts, giving you the opportunity to apply techniques like eighth and sixteenth notes, fingerings, and more.
